She later returned to WVU to get a master's in corporate and organizational communications in 2002. After that, she ran for her first office in 2004, when she ran for Secretary of State and lost. Clearly, Tennant was resilient and earned her spot as the Secretary of State in the next election in 2008. Tennant focused on improving the efficiency of the Secretary of State's office as well as promoting an open-minded government and an environment that businesses can thrive in during her time in office. Currently, she is running for Secretary of State again in November of 2020, as she lost a tight race in 2016.
